I want to share with you an exciting opportunity that is available to me. Sagemont Church has invited

me to participate with 15 other people on a mission trip to Africa this summer. Our destination is

Kibera, a slum neighborhood within the city of Nairobi, Kenya.

Kibera is one of the largest slums in the world, with more than 1.5 million people who all live in an area

about 1 mile in diameter. There are countless needs in Kibera. Services that we take for granted, like

running water, electricity and a sewage system, are non-existent in this area, and schools for the

children are scarce.

Our mission in Kibera is to help and support missionaries Sandy and Karen Baird, the founders of the

New Hope Initiative. New Hope is a faith-based organization dedicated to meeting the physical and

spiritual needs of the people of Kibera. The Bairds have started a school called the New Hope School of

Kibera where they serve more than 500 children and their families.

Our reason for going on this trip is to work with the schoolchildren of New Hope. There we will share

the gospel and the joy that only God can give through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Our plan is

to reach these kids through teaching them music and how to play the ukulele. We believe their lives will

be enriched and a music skill could be their opportunity to leave the cycle of poverty that exists in the

slums of Kibera. We will play, sing and preach at evangelistic services at various venues.

We believe that God will work in us and through us on this trip, and I believe afterwards in my own

Christian walk. If you would like to support us in prayer and/or financially, I would be very grateful. The

total cost of the trip is a little over $3000 per person. Though the trip doesn't leave until June 20, we

have to buy tickets and make other preparations now, so we need your prayer and financial support

now, as the Lord leads you.

The mission involvement of the group will grow beyond their participation in the trip.

All of the trip's financial needs (about $3000/person) will be met in a timely fashion.

•

God would keep us safe and that all of our passports and other documents could be processed

in time.

•

The group would work well together, and that God would prepare the hearts of those who will

hear us in Kibera, Kenya and during every evangelistic opportunity and contact.
