PROCEDURE:
Annual Evaluations should be distributed in the fall of the year. The personnel
committee is responsible for sending these evaluations out and requesting their prompt return.
FOR THE PASTOR’S EVALUATION: Evaluations should be solicited from each
member of the joint board and members from a variety of demographics within the congregation.
The Chair of the Trustees, Vice Chair of the Elders will then meet with the pastor for review of
the findings and a conversation about the current state of his/her pastoral leadership and ministry.
This face-to-face dialogue is extremely important, because it offers the participants opportunities
to clarify, expand upon and further discuss any responses. Common themes are looked for and
discussed. Strategies for change are developed in an atmosphere that should be caring,
supportive and honest.
FOR THE ORGANIST/CHOIR DIRECTOR: Evaluations should be solicited from the
pastor, members of the choir, musicians, board members and at least one non-musician (doesn’t
have to be everyone in these groups, perhaps 3 or 4 from each). The Pastor will sit down with
the organist and discuss the findings.
FOR THE SECRETARY: Evaluations should be solicited from the Pastor, Joint Board,
Organist and committee heads. The Pastor will sit down with the secretary and discuss the
findings.
SEXTON: Evaluations should be solicited from the Pastor and Trustees. The Trustee
president and a supervisor will sit down with the sexton and discuss the findings.
