CHILD AND BOOSTER SEAT GUIDE
Child seats are required by law in BC (RV’s included) for children 9 years of age and under (as per
Division 36 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations)!
The same regulations apply in both B.C. and Alberta:
AGE/WEIGHT OF CHILD
CHILD SEAT RUIREMENTS
From birth to 1 year AND 9 kg (20 lb)
Infant and rear-facing child car seat
Over 1 year AND 9kg (20 lb)
Forward-facing child seat
Under 9 years AND over 18 kg (40 lb)
Booster seat
We at Go West RV Centre our aim is the highest standard of safety when it comes to children travel-
ling in motorhomes and we insist on the following:
Front seats must not be used to accommodate children younger than 9 years of age under any circum-
stances (and our preference is that no children be placed in front seats).
Rear-facing infant/child car seats are not permitted (in any seats of the RV), as they cannot be secured
to a tether.
Child seats are not permitted in the rear-facing bench of the dinette, or in any side-facing chairs or
couches – therefore, the only safe place for a forward-facing car seat is the forward-facing bench of the
dinette (maximum 2 per unit). We will allow booster seats in the rear-facing bench of the dinette.
Child seats must be attached to a pre-installed tether or anchor.
The staff of Go West RV are not legally able to assist the customer in installing the car seat, nor can
they advise the customer at the time of rental how they shoud install the car seat. This will be the res-
posiblity of the responsibility of the renter.
It is the renter’s responsibility to bring a child seat that is legal for use in Canada.
In most cases the dinette table will have to be lowered to accommodate the child seat, as it would
be when setting it up as a bed. This affects other passengers, because it means that only children
in car seats will be able to sit on the dinette benches during the trip. This will limit the number of
passengers that the rental can accommodate.
No children under the age of 1 AND 9kg (20 pounds) or less, are permitted to travel in our motor-
homes. For children over 1 AND 9 kg (20 pounds) or more, child seats can only by installed (by the
renter) in the forward-facing bench of the dinette, and they must be attached to a pre-installed tether
or anchor. Children in booster seats are permitted to sit in the rear-facing bench of the dinette, and it
is not required that the booster seat be attached to a tether or anchor.
