Student Instructions: To have this letter of intent signed, please fax or email this form along with unofficial transcripts from all
of your college courses to JMU’s Transfer Advising Coordinator, Kate McDaniel, at (540)568-4333 or mcdanikm@jmu.edu. Mrs.
McDaniel will then have this form submitted to JMU’s Office of Admissions. Keep in mind that official transcripts from all high
schools and colleges must be sent to JMU’s Office of Admissions by the admissions application deadline.

My signature below indicates that I understand and agree to meet all of the following requirements in order to
be eligible for the GAA between JMU and Northern Virginia Community College.
•
I must graduate from the NOVA A.A. or A.S. College/University Transfer program. (major in General Studies not approved)
•
I must submit a complete admission application to JMU by the deadline.
•
I have taken at least 24 credit hours after high school graduation.
•
I must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.000 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application and upon graduation.
•
I must have earned a cumulative 3.000 GPA in my core academic courses in language, math, lab science, and social science. At the time of application,
at least one college-level transferable course must be completed in each of these areas. I understand that all courses are considered as part of my
application, even those I am not considering to complete my degree.
•
If I have attended multiple schools, I must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.000 at NOVA and all previous institutions.
•
I understand that all work attempted at NOVA and all previous institutions will be considered by JMU.
•
I have not repeated more than two different courses.
•
I have not earned a grade lower than a C in any course that I have not repeated.
•
AP, IB, and Cambridge International Exam credits applied toward my Associates Degree will be re-evaluated based on JMU’s standards for accepting
credit. If I use AP, IB, or Cambridge International Exam credits to completely fulfill any of the core academic areas (language, math, lab science, social
science), I may not be eligible for the GAA. I should send exam scores to JMU that I wish to be considered by the application deadline.
•
I understand I cannot use CLEP examinations to completely fulfill any of the core academic areas (language, math, lab science, social science). JMU
does not evaluate or grant credit for CLEP examinations.
•
I have completed at least 45 credits at the time I submit my admissions application.
•
If I plan to begin in the fall, I do not have more than two courses to take in the summer.
•
If I change my mind about my intended major or desired semester to enroll after mailing my Letter of Intent, I must notify JMU Admissions.
•
I understand that admission to JMU does not imply acceptance into any particular major at JMU. Some majors are competitive and have specific
academic requirements to be eligible for admission to the major. Enrollment may be deferred by the Office of Admissions based on space available in
my intended major.
•
I will complete degree requirements & apply for graduation from NOVA prior to enrolling at JMU.
•
In accordance with state and federal guidelines, some students may be ineligible to enroll at JMU based on their immigration status. The Office of
Admissions reserves the right to request supporting documentation to determine immigration status and eligibility.
•
JMU reserves the right to deny admission or the benefits of this agreement to students who have been suspended, dismissed, or expelled for academic
or non-academic reasons from any college or those who have been convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to, a felony.
