BENADRYL (DIPHENHYDRAMINE)
NEVER GIVE TO A CHILD UNDER 1 YEAR OF AGE
Dose every 6 hours. We use Benadryl for the treatment of hives or itching. When an allergic reaction occurs, histamine
is released into the blood stream. It is the histamine that is responsible for the itching, sneezing or rash that sometimes
occurs. Benadryl is an “anti-histamine” that blocks these nuisances. Antihistamines can cause drowsiness, dry mouth
and at times an upset stomach. Some children have the opposite effect and get “hyper”, this is an inconvenience more
than a medical concern. Antihistamines can be given with antibiotics, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, decongestants and
cough suppressants. Benadryl should not be given for Croup, since it dries the air passages.
