Purpose: The best way to learn poetry is by trying

to create poetry. Likewise, poetry has many

different forms that all serve different functions

depending on your purpose of writing. There are

poetic forms for joy such as for a wedding or

sadness over the loss of a person or thing or

affection for a person or place. This is your chance to find a poetic form that is new to you

and try it out yourself.

Directions: You are tasked with creating a booklet explaining one specific poetic form. Since

there are enough poetic forms for every individual in class, you will also be the expert on your

form for the class.

Requirements

Page 1-----Title Page

Your title page should have the name of the poetic form that you are doing, your

name, your homeroom number, and illustrations that go along with the theme of your

poems.

Page 2-----History of Form

The second page should have a brief history of the form. It should answer the 5-W

questions so your fellow poets know how it came to be. (Examples of 5-W questions for this

could be “What person or group of people created the form? When was the form created?

Where was the form created or popularized? Why was the form created?)
