Re: Dr. John Smith, Outstanding Professor/Researcher
To whom it may concern:
This is to document that Dr. John Smith has more than three years of professional research
experience in the field of inorganic Chemistry.
I am a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and have worked in the
field of inorganic Chemistry for more than 25 years. I have known Dr. Smith since January
1999, when he presented his research findings at the annual Society of Inorganic Chemistry
Meeting in Boston. At the time, Dr. Smith was a Research Scientist in the Department of
Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, a position he had held for nearly four years.
I was intrigued by his research and invited him to visit the University of Wisconsin-Madison
prior to returning to Australia. As a result of that visit, he was offered a two year visiting
appointment in the Department beginning 1 January 2000. During that time, he completed many
excellent research projects working in collaboration with me and other researchers in the
Department. At the end of his visiting appointment, he was offered the position of Associate
Scientist.
Dr. Smith therefore has well over the required three years of experience in the field of inorganic
Chemistry. Enclosed is a letter from the University of Melbourne confirming his four years of
outstanding research in their Department of Chemistry, and this letter serves to confirm Dr.
Smith’s continuous years of work here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 2000. Dr.
Smith is an excellent scientist with remarkable research abilities. I hope that it will be possible
for him to remain here and to continue his outstanding research.
Sincerely,
John Green
