Dear Representative Smith,

I am a second-year student at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in economics and biology with a minor

in ethics. After graduation, I hope to work in one of Pennsylvania’s great hospital systems, and Pitt has been

instrumental in my pursuit of that dream. I’m not even halfway through my time here, but I have already had

the opportunity to network with important individuals in the field, gain real life experience through research

and internships, and learn from leaders. It has been incredible, to say the least.

As a Pitt student and Pennsylvania resident, support for higher education in our state is more important than

ever to me. Increased state funding allows for fewer tuition increases –fewer student loans for me– and more

of the amazing experiences I’ve had here. My friends and I decided to attend Pitt for many reasons – its

world-renowned reputation, amazing value, the innovative research being done here, a beautiful urban

campus – the list could go on and on.. It has become my home away from home.

I ask you to support the proposed increase in funding for Pitt and public higher education, and to urge your

party’s leadership to do the same. Support for public higher education keeps talented graduates in

Pennsylvania and allows us to start our lives with less debt and more experience.
