Dear Officer,
As the prospective employer of Dr. John Smith at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, I am writing
this letter to accompany documents in support of an H-1B petition to employ Dr. Smith as a temporary
non-clinical worker under a funded research grant for a period not to exceed 3 years in the position of
Research Fellow.
(Insert information about the applicant)
Dr. Smith is currently in the United States under a visa received through the sponsorship of New York
University. As noted in the attendant I-94 form, Dr. Smith is authorized to work in the U.S. until
December 15, 2012. As documented in the attached Curriculum Vitae and certified translation of his
graduate degree, Dr. Smith received a five-year medical education and his M.D. degree in 1999 from
the XYZ Medical College.
(Insert information about the position)
Dr. Smith's qualifications exactly coincide with those required to perform the required procedures
under our current research award. These involve the detection, purification and immunological
characterization of recently discovered receptor proteins for mediating the biological activity of retinoic
acid, an important physiological regulator of cell differentiation. The objectives of the research project
include the development of a sensitive binding assay for the retinoic acid receptor proteins, using
partial purification by FPLC, and the development of antibodies to these receptor proteins, initially to
be monitored by ELISA methodology and then by additional techniques involving molecular cloning .
In view of the above description, we hope that you will grant Dr. Smith the requested change of visa
status to H-1B visa so that we may employ him. We have explained the temporary scope of Dr. Smith's
employment and its non-clinical nature to him. He will be compensated at a salary of $ 50,000 per year.
Sincerely,
Faculty Sponsor/Supervisor
