JOB DESCRIPTION
Villa Maria College is seeking a full-time faculty member, beginning Fall 2015, for its BFA program in
Fashion Design and Merchandising. Villa Maria is a small, private, co-educational college with specialized
programs in the applied arts and music combined with liberal arts, business, and health programs.
The Fashion Design and Merchandising program at Villa Maria College began fall 2008 and is a
competitive, hands-on, and demanding program that recruits highly talented and committed
students. Students can select either a Design track or a Merchandising track. The program features small
class sizes, a dedicated sewing studio, a dedicated computer lab with Lectra software and a digitizing
table, a resource room, an historic costume collection, and an annual fashion show. The curriculum
stresses the understanding of art and design principles, textiles, and business and merchandising
practices. Regular student study trips include New York City, Toronto, and WWDMAGIC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach undergraduate courses in the fashion design and/or merchandising area. Courses could include
fashion illustration, CAD, portfolio development, as well as some apparel construction and technical
design and/or textiles. Also student advisement and mentoring in the Fashion Design and Merchandising
program. Contribute collaboratively towards building and growing the fashion program. Foster industry
partnerships. Develop collaborative student learning activities. Actively participate in committee
responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
The faculty member will specialize in fashion design and/or merchandising with special attention given to
candidates with knowledge of textiles and/or CAD and/or fashion illustration. The candidate must hold at
least a master’s degree in fashion or a related field. Industry experience is a plus.
The starting date is August 2015.
