* deep tendon reflexes absent
* urinary output< 30 ml/hr
* respirations<12
* serum magnesium level is < 5 mg/dl or >8 mg/dl

Incentive spirometry hourly during magnesium infusion

Vital signs hourly with deep tendon reflexes
