Dear Michigan City Resident,
The city of Michigan City has a diverse and talented community of skilled workers, craft persons and laborers who
are qualified to work in the construction industry. Therefore, Ordinance #4102 was passed as an amendment to
Ordinance #3974, also known as the “Michigan City Local Hiring Program.” The program was created to encourage
the hiring of local residents, including minorities and women.
Each contractor who works on a municipal construction project for which more than $200,000 is spent agrees to
meet the Resident Hiring Quota of 50% of the total hourly wages paid for the construction project at the
construction site. The Michigan City Human Rights/ EEO Department works to maintain a list of residents who have
expressed interest in working on construction projects along with their skill sets. The list is available to the
contractor as a resource to find available local workforce.
The Department regularly updates the Local Resident Hiring Registry. Feel free to complete our online registration
form OR complete a form at the Michigan City Human Rights Department, City Hall, 100 East Michigan Boulevard.
If you have questions, feel free to contact the department.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Deuitch
