Requirement Course Agreement

Independent Research—Advanced Writing Requirement Course: Research project completed under the supervision of a faculty

member who has a special interest and expertise in a specific area. Students must obtain the consent of the faculty member for the

project and agree on the number of credits prior to registration. The Independent Research must include per credit reading and writing

components at least commensurate with a law school seminar. At the completion of this course, the supervising faculty member must

certify that the final written product satisfies the Advanced Writing Requirement. Two (2) credits is the maximum credits that can be

earned per term. Credits for the Independent Research—Advanced Writing course and the Independent Study course together may not

exceed a total of (4) credits toward graduation.

Prepare a brief description of the research topic. You should include, where appropriate,

potential materials to be used during the research (casebooks, major cases, leading journal articles, etc.), a reasonable description of

the topic to be examined, and a justification for the study (why do you want to study this topic?).
