Miss Russell’s Kindergarten Discipline Plan
Dear Families,
In order for all of the children in our classroom to have the excellent learning
environment they deserve, I am using the following classroom management plan. The plan
is based on mutual respect and cooperation; incorporating firmness with dignity and
respect. It is the goal of this plan to develop the long-range characteristics of self-
motivated discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. I will be in
contact with you regarding your child’s progress in my classroom. Let’s all work
together to make this a successful year. After reviewing this plan, please sign the
attached form and return it to school.

Color Card Discipline Plan
A daily behavior plan using a color card chart will be used in the classroom.
The colors are as follows:
Green
Great Going!
Good choices!
Yellow
Warning!
Stop and think to make a good choice.
Red
Stop and Think!
Possible time out. Teacher meets with student to
discuss making better choices. Note home in agenda.
Orange
Time Out!
Too many bad choices. (Time out/discipline form sent
home.)
Blue
Very Sad Choice Day!
Time out/discipline form or phone call home. Office
referral possible.
One way for the children to learn to make good choices is through the “Stop and Think!”
process:
1. Stop and Think! (about the choices I am making.)
2. Good Choice (thumbs up) or Bad Choice (thumbs down) – (Which one am I making?)
3. Steps/Choices (What can I do to change my bad choice into a good choice?)
4. Just Do It! (I know how to make a good choice!)
5. Tell myself, “GOOD JOB!”
Positive Reinforcement
I will frequently reinforce positive behavior through verbal praise, positive signals, and
occasionally happy notes. Children who are continually on green throughout the day can
even earn bonus stars showing a SUPER STAR GREEN DAY! When an extra star is
earned, you will see a sticker beside the color circle in the agenda book.
