K-LT’s Class Wide Behavior Management System
Individual Student Behavior – Magnetic Clip Rainbow Chart
Student choices are tracked on a Rainbow Chart. Al l students begin the day on green in the middl e
of the chart. Cl o thespins are moved up or down depending on choices. Cl i ps that are moved down
may be moved back up if the teachers see the student making improved choices. In addition, once a
clip is moved up, it may be moved down. All clothespins are moved back to green at the end of the day
to initiate a fresh start for the next day.
If a student moves their cl i p to Role Model, they wil l receive a special note
to take home. This l e vel is reserved for extraordinary behavior and wil l be
given out on extraordinary occasions. We want this l e vel to remain special
therefore pl e ase do not expect your chil d to reach this l e vel dail y or even
weekl y .
A student woul d move to Great Choices for continuing to make
appropriate choices throughout the day. This l e vel woul d require going
above and beyond the everyday cl a ssroom expectations. Pl e ase
congratul a te your chil d when they reach this l e vel !
A student may move to Good Choices for making appropriate choices,
trying their best, and showing good character. This is a great level to end
the day on and shoul d make you and your chil d very proud!
Al l students begin the day on Ready to Learn. They wil l move up or down
during the day depending on the choices they make. This is an acceptabl e
level to stay at. If your child ends the day on this level it does not mean
that they were not a good listener, or that they got in troubl e . This l e vel
simpl y means that your chil d was appropriate and ready to l e arn al l day.
A student may move to Warning as a reminder to fol l o w the cl a ssroom rul e s.
At this level, your child will have no consequence, other than moving their clip
down a l e vel . This wil l just remind your chil d of their actions.
When a student needs to move down to Think About It the teachers wil l
have a conversation with your chil d to discuss their behavior. Your chil d wil l
then be given some time to think about their actions and turn their day
around. The teachers wil l choose an appropriate consequence. The
consequences coul d be taking a “think break”, minutes off at recess time,
loss of privileges, or something that woul d assist in becoming meaningful to
the student to deter the action from happening again. This l e vel woul d
resul t in a brief note home indicating what happened during the day.
This is a l e vel that we hope a chil d woul d have had an opportunity to turn
their day around before having to get here. A student who moves to STOP
- Consequence has broken several cl a ssroom rul e s and is not conducting
themsel v es in a safe and appropriate manner for the cl a ssroom. At this
level, communication home would be made throughout the school day or after
school. A possibl e visit to the principal may be needed in addition to a
consequence such as those stated in the previous l e vel . A teacher wil l sit
with your chil d at the end of the day to compl e te a “think sheet” to discuss
the day’s events and how they can work together to make “tomorrow” a
better day.
