Grade Behavior Plan
Mrs. Eisele- Room 10
Dear Parents,
What a pleasure it is to be your child’s First Grade teacher. There is so much to learn, and I want to be certain
that every child has the opportunity to learn in a safe, consistent, and positive environment. In order to do this,
it is important that we have a very specific list of behavior expectations with consequences for those who
choose not to follow the rules, and positive rewards for appropriate behavior. This plan will begin immediately
and will be in effect all year.
In our classroom we have clip chart that looks like this:
Super Citizen
Great Choices
Good Choices
Ready to Learn
Slow Down
Think About It
Teacher’s Choice
Your child has a clothespin with his or her name on it. At the beginning of each day, your child’s clothespin is
attached to the Ready to Learn portion of this chart. As your child makes positive or negative behavior
choices throughout the day, I will ask your child to move their clothespin up or down on the chart. It is possible
for a child to move down on the chart and then up again in the same day if he or she has really worked hard at
changing their behavior. Some students may make a lot of really positive behavior choices in one day and may
end up moving their clothespin to a Top of the Chart or Off the Chart position (which is not shown in the
diagram above).
Your child will be tracking his or her behavior each day with a behavior chart. I will also be using this chart
daily to record and/or write notes about your child’s behavior. It is important to talk to your child about his or
her behavior at school each day. It is your child’s responsibility to keep this chart in their homework
folder and to ask you to sign it each day. Your signature lets me know that your child has shown you this
chart as well as other important papers that may be in your child’s folder. If there is another adult that watches
your child after school and reviews your child’s paperwork with your child, let me know and I will be happy to
accept their signature. If your child frequently fails to return their folder to school with a signed behavior chart,
it will result in a loss of recess.
If your child’s behavior chart indicates that your child ended the day on Slow Down, Think About It, or
Teacher’s Choice, I will write a short note on the behavior chart indicating the behavior and consequences that
were given here at school. Please feel free to call or e-mail me if you feel a longer explanation of the behavior
is needed.
