Definitions
Essential Parts:
All integral and body parts of a vehicle of a type required to be registered in this
state, the removal, alteration, or substitution of which would tend to conceal the identity of the
vehicle or substantially alter its appearance, model, type, or mode of operation.
Major Component Parts:
The front body component of a motor vehicle consisting of the
structure forward of the firewall; the passenger body component of a motor vehicle including the
firewall, roof, and extending to and including the rear-most seating; the rear body component of a
motor vehicle consisting of the main cross member directly behind the rear-most seating
excluding any auxiliary seating and structural body assembly rear of the cross members; and the
frame of a motor vehicle consisting of the structural member that supports the auto body.
Reconstructed Vehicle:
Every vehicle, of a type required to be registered in this state, that is
materially altered from its original construction by the removal, addition, or substitution of
essential parts, new or used.
Requirements For Registering A Homebuilt Trailer/Vehicle
1.
Complete the following forms:
a. TC-656 MVA, Application for Utah Title
b. TC-569A MVA, Ownership Statement
c. TC-162, Application for Utah Motor Vehicle Identification Number (reverse side)
2.
Submit original receipts or copies of original receipts for materials purchased to build the vehicle.
If receipts are not available, please indicate on the Ownership Statement why receipts are not
available.
3.
Provide pictures of all sides of the vehicle, including the interior.
4.
Obtain a property tax clearance from the county assessor (if mobile/manufactured home).
5.
Obtain necessary safety and/or emissions inspections, if required.
