APPLICATION & INSTRUCTIONS FOR A
CIRCUS LICENSE
CODE-215
A circus, rodeo, carnival, fair, performance, singing, playing of musical or other instruments, dancing or
amusement of any kind, or preaching, exhorting, or lecturing may be conducted or operated in a tent, or
temporary structure of any kind, on vacant land, or in a yard or area appurtenant to any building, subject to the
conditions set forth in the Amusement and Entertainment Regulations (DCMP-19, Chapter 13).
Please read and follow these instructions carefully. A correctly completed application will expedite the
issuance of your business license.
Application/Processing Requirements:
1.
A completed Miscellaneous Application for D.C. License (BRA-4) is required. (attached)
2.
A completed Special Events Questionnaire is required. (attached)
3.
Each Corporation, Limited Liability Company, or a Limited Partnership doing business in the District of
Columbia must be in good standing. For additional information, please call (202) 442-4430, or visit the
One Stop Business Center located on the 1st Floor, Room #1100.
4.
A D.C. Tax Registration Certificate is required from the Office of Tax and Revenue. For additional
information, please call (202) 727-4829, or visit the Tax Customer Center located on the 1st Floor,
Room #1110.
5.
Applicant shall submit a consent list of adult householders and business owners within five hundred
(500) feet radius of the parameter of the event. The list shall contain individual’s name, address, in
numerical order who have consented to the activity by providing their signature on the list.
6.
A consent list is not required when the event is held on District owned property.
7.
If mechanical rides and/or devices are to be used, a certificate of insurance maintaining liability
coverage of $100,000 for bodily injury to one (1) person and $300,000 for bodily injury arising out of
any single occurrence.
8.
The application shall be submitted at least ten (10) business days prior to the event.
9.
License Fees: $19.00 per day, per carload (railroad car); $14.00 per day, per truckload.
