APPLICATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR AN
AUCTIONEER LICENSE

No person or corporation shall offer for sale, sell, or cause to be offered for sale or sold, any real or personal
property at public auction in the District of Columbia, unless that sale is cried by a duly licensed auctioneer.
Please read and follow these instructions carefully. A correctly completed application will expedite the issuance
of your business license.
1.
A complete identification application (BRA-4) is required.
2.
A Tax Registration Certificate is required from the Office of Tax and Revenue. For additional information,
please call (202) 727-4829 or visit the Tax Customer Center located on the 1 st Floor, Room #1110.
3.
A Police Criminal Report (PD-70) is required for each applicant. A District resident must obtain this
document from the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, 300 Indiana Avenue, NW., room 3055. A non-
District resident must obtain this document from the jurisdiction in which he/she lives.
4.
The applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old and must be a D.C. resident or in business in the
District of Columbia for six (6) continuous months prior to the date of application. If the applicant is not
a D.C. resident, a residential waiver will be required.
5.
If an applicant who does not meet the residence requirements of this section, but possesses special quali-
fication which will contribute to the effective sale of specifically described goods, the Mayor may, if the
application is supported by a petition setting forth exceptional circumstances, authorize the issuance of a
license.
6.
A Clean Hands Form is required by all applicants. (attached)
