Recreational placer mining is defined as the operation of a suction dredge with an intake diameter of 6

inches or less and 18 horsepower or less, and no additional mechanized equipment is used. Please note

that issuance of a Department of Fish and Game permit does not eliminate the need to obtain other state,

federal, or local permits, and approval from private mining claim owners.
