The above information is a guideline that can be used to identify if the sounds a child is producing are
appropriate for their age level. The columns (top row) indicate the child's age in years. The rows in the
shaded area represent the sound and the age at which the sound develops. The light grey area indicates
the range at which the child is expected to acquire a certain sound. The light grey area also represents the
age level at which 90% of children are producing the sound. The dark grey area represents the age range
for which a sound may still be developing. This was based on information from Sanders (1972) and the
