Letter to Parents of a Newborn Baby in Your Community
Dear _____________,
Great news has just come to our attention---a new baby at your house!
How fortunate your baby is to be born in this time when we know so much about the
prevention and treatment of various diseases, including dental disease. Ours is a Pediatric
Dental practice in which we care for children beginning in infancy. With two or three years of
post-graduate training beyond the four years of dental school, the Pediatric Dentist is a
specialist devoted to dental care for young people from infancy, on, with an emphasis on the
prevention of disease and a lifetime of oral health.
To start your infant on a lifetime of dental health, please use the enclosed gifts---a Tender
Infant Mouth Swab* to clean your baby’s mouth following every feeding using plain warm
water to moisten the Tender; our business card in the form of a magnet for your refrigerator
so you will have our number handy in case of questions or an emergency; and a pamphlet
containing information about your baby’s oral health including a teething chart.
Please remember the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental
examination no later than 12 month of age. At this first appointment we will show you how to
keep your child’s mouth disease free and recommend nursing and feeding habits that promote
good dental health.
If we may answer any questions now, please call or email our office. And we urge you to mark
your calendar as a reminder to schedule a first dental examination appointment by your baby’s
first birthday. We too want to make certain your child enjoys a healthy mouth and a beautiful
smile. We look forward to helping you make your child part of the cavity-free generation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Betty Doe and Staff
