Green Eggs and Ham
is one of the best-selling English language children‟s
books of all time. It was first published in 1960.
This book is ideal for use with young learners in the EFL classroom. It uses
a simple vocabulary of just fifty words, most of which are mono-syllabic.
The story is told through fun rhyming dialogue, making it engaging to read
aloud, and the lively, quirky characters bring it to life.
The resources provided here:
30 small picture/word cards
A game board
A word search worksheet
12 Flashcards (with labels for the back)
Additional resources:
Green Eggs and Ham.
You will need a copy of the book,
You can also find the
story as a cartoon on YouTube.
Finally, there are suggested plans for two forty-five minute lessons. These
have been trialed with several classes of Japanese students, aged nine and
ten. I found that even my most difficult classes settled down, enjoyed the
story and participated in the supporting activities.
Good luck and I hope your students enjoy using these materials.
