Directions for sewing the puppets:

To make felt puppets, thread a large needle with a

5-foot strand of embroidery thread (note that directions

say to use yarn, however, embroidery thread glides more

easily through felt). Tie a knot in one end of the thread.

Sew the edges of the puppet pieces together. Begin at

the bottom edge of the puppet as shown in the diagram.

Work your way around the outer edge of the puppet,

always inserting your needle on the back side of the

puppet and pulling it out on the front side of the puppet.

When finished, secure the stitches by making two

overlapping stitches. Cut away excess thread.

For construction paper puppets, punch holes

around the outer edges of the puppet every ½ inch with a

hole punch. Thread a large plastic needle with a 5-foot

strand of embroidery thread or yarn. (Instead of using a

plastic needle, you can tie the thread to a cotton-tipped

swab.) Tie a knot in one end of the thread. Sew or lace

as directed above.
