Learning Objectives
Given this demonstration, explanation, and experiment the fourth grade
students will be able to:
1. identify when spectroscopy is a useful tool to gather information
2. list how light changes when it passes through an object
3. list which colors are absorbed and which ones refract through an
object
with 90% accuracy.

Introduction
Today we will be learning about how scientists use light from the sun,
the stars, and distant planets to make discoveries. Just as biology is the
branch of science that studies life, spectroscopy is the branch of science
that studies light. In spectroscopy experiments, light from a source, like
a light bulb or the sun, gets separated into different colors. We look for
patterns in the colors to gain more information about the source or objects
between us and the source.
