Dear [Personalize for each Public Service Director]:

In many communities across the country, wildfires are a fact of life. It is not if a wildfire will strike, but
when; such is the case in our community. However, many people in these communities do not know that
there are steps they can take in advance to prepare for the inevitable arrival of wildfire.
This year, the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service and the Ad Council are introducing
Widlfire Preparedness - Fire Adapted Communities, a national public service advertising campaign, in
partnership with [local organization]. This campaign educates and empower members of these fire prone
areas to prepare now in order to protect their homes and communities from wildfire. The campaign directs
viewers to where they can learn tips, tools and resources on how to better prepare. By
airing this message, you can help educate your stations’s viewers on the inevibility of wildfire and the
importance of preparing for it before it arrives. Helping your audience learn to mitigate wildfire damage
means helping keep your community safe for when it arrives.
The new ads deliver a key message: “Prepare. Protect. Prevail.” Many people believe that there is nothing
they can do about wildfire. However, this message encourages them to prepare now in order to protect
their home and community later, and ultimately prevail over the impact of wildfires.
Communities in fire prone ecosystems need this message now.
