A Family Newsletter
Greetings, Family!
Weather affects nearly every part of our lives. In our next unit,
“Weather,” our science class will be studying different types of weather.
We will learn how to measure weather conditions, such as tempera-
ture, wind speed, wind direction, and amount of rain. Students will
learn how to classify clouds by their shape and height. We’ll explore
where puddles go after it rains, how clouds, dew, and frost form, and
how water cycles from Earth’s surface to air, clouds, and back to the
surface again.
You can make science come alive for your child in and around your
home. Do you have a thermometer or other weather instrument? Per-
haps you can set aside a few moments each day to read the instrument
with your child. Do you have a computer? You can access up-to-the-
minute weather data on Web sites. You can also have your child look
in newspapers and watch the news for weather forecasts.
For some hands-on activities in this module, we could use extra help in
the classroom. No particular expertise is needed, just a willingness to
help. Do you or other family members have time to spare during the
school day? If so, please fill out the form below and have your student
return it to class. You will be contacted about your availability on a
particular day and time.
Thank you very much for your help!
