Name___________________________
Middle School Summer Reading 2017—Entering Grades 6 and 7
For your summer reading project this year, you are to read three books of your choice
that are at Middle Grades level or above. Check the books’ levels on .
Challenge yourself, find a new author or genre to try, and enjoy reading over the summer.
One of the books must be nonfiction. The other two must be fiction. You will then
choose one project to complete for one of your books. Keep track of all the books that you
read during the summer using the reading log. The project list and reading log are included in
this handout.
This assignment will count towards your first trimester grade and is due on the first day
of school. The reading log will also be collected on the first day of school. Spelling, grammar,
punctuation, and organization are a factor in your grade. If you choose a paper for your
project, double space it and put it in Times New Roman font, size 12. If you have any questions,
please email Mrs. Hollens at .
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Hollens
