ACTIVITY SHEET
Work with your group to design an experiment. The experiment
should test how earthworms react to light or to moisture. You
could try one of these experiments or create one of your own.
• Find out if earthworms prefer light or dark places.
• Find out if earthworms prefer moist or dry places.
• Find out what earthworms do if the soil gets too soggy.
• Find out what earthworms do when you shine light at them.

Write a question that you can test.

Write a hypothesis. The hypothesis should tell what you
think the earthworms will do.
On a separate sheet of paper, write your experiment design.
• Identify the variables in your experiment. Which will be the
independent variable? Which will be the dependent variable?
Which variables will you control?
• Write the procedure you will use.
• Design a way to record your observations. You could use a chart
or diagrams.
• Do your experiment. Record your results. Did the results answer
your question?
• Write a lab report of your experiment.
