STUDENT RESOURCE 6.6
ACTIVITY SHEET
Work with your group to design an experiment. The experiment
should test how water temperature affects a goldfish’s breathing
rate. In the experiment, use
ice cubes to make the water
colder
warm water to make the water warmer.
1
Write a question you can test.
2
Write a hypothesis. The hypothesis should tell how you think
the temperature of the water will affect the fish’s breathing.
On a separate sheet of paper, write your experiment design.
• Write the procedure you will use.
• Design a way to record your observations. You could use a
chart.
• Do your experiment. For each trial, count how many times the
fish breathed in 15 seconds. Multiply by 4 to find how many
times it breathed in 1 minute.
• Analyze your results. Did the results answer your question?
• Write a lab report of your experiment.
