How to tell time at night with a time dial:

Go outside on a dark, clear night with an adult. Take your
time dial and a fl ashlight.

Find the Big Dipper. Use it to fi nd Polaris, the North Star.
Face the North Star. Now you are facing north.

Hold the time dial in front of you with the current month at
the top.

Turn the star circle until the Big Dipper and Little Dipper
match the sky. Read the time in the notch.

On the chart, write down the time on the time dial and
the “real” time shown on a clock. If you observe daylight
saving time, add 1 hour to the time dial, but only if the
month is between March and November.
6
Try your time dial at two different times on the same night.
Record the times.
