ACTIVITY SHEET

Procedure

Hold a metric ruler at the 30-cm end. Have your partner

hold his or her thumb and index ﬁnger just below the ruler’s

1-cm line, with the ﬁngers slightly apart so the ruler can fall

through them.

Let go of the ruler. Your partner should try to catch it with

just the ﬁngers.

Read the centimeter line just above your partner’s thumb.

Subtract 1 cm from this number to ﬁnd the distance that the

ruler fell. Record this number in the table.

Repeat the test three more times and record the results.

Switch places with your partner, and repeat the test for four

trials.

Calculate the average distance for yourself and your partner.
