The phenakistoscope was the 19th century version of a short movie.
This little film features a cow on the move.

What you need
•
template for phenakistoscope printed on card stock (see below)
•
scissors
•
pencil with eraser
•
pin
•
large mirror
What to do
1.
Cut out the phenakistoscope along the outside solid lines. Make sure to cut
out the black slots next to each picture.
2.
Push the pin through the center mark of the phenakistoscope and into the
pencil’s eraser.
3.
Turn the phenakistoscope so the pictures are facing the mirror. Look through the
top slot with one eye. Close the other eye. Spin the disk and watch the cow in action.
