SUMMARY:  

The   s tudent   w ill   h elp   t he   g raduate   a ssistants   a nd   t he   p rofessor   w ith   t echnical   t asks   a nd   r esearch   o n   t he  

various   p rojects   i n   t he   l ab.  

 

TASKS:  

• Perform   b asic   b iology   l ab   t echniques   ( for   e xample:   P CR,   s terile   g rowth   o f   c olonies   o n   P etri   d ishes,  

light   m icroscopy)  

• Record   a nd   e valuate   d ata  

• Create   p osters   f or   c onferences   a nd   e vents  

• Assemble,   o perate,   a nd   c lean   l aboratory   e quipment  

• Attend   w eekly   l ab   m eetings  

• Consistently   r ead     p ublications   a bout   i nfectious   d iseases   a nd   s tay   c urrent   o n   n ew   d evelopments  

 

REQUIRED   Q UALIFICATIONS:  

• Current   U T   s tudent   i n   t he   C ollege   o f   N atural   S ciences  

• Minimum   G PA   o f   2 .5  

• Has   t aken   a t   l east   o ne   b iology   l aboratory   c ourse  

 

PREFERRED   Q UALIFICATIONS:  

• Student   i s   a   b iology,   b iochemistry,   o r   p ublic   h ealth   m ajor  

• First   o r   s econd   y ear   s tudent  

• Some   q uantitative   a nd   q ualitative   r esearch   w ork  

• Basic   k nowledge   o f   s tatistical   s oftware   ( SAS,   S PSS,   R ,   S TATA,   e tc.)  

• Interest   i n   p ost-­‐undergraduate   r esearch   o f   i nfectious   d iseases  

• Experience   w ith   c reative   s oftware   ( Adobe,   P ublisher,   e tc.)
