RATIO AND
PROPORTION
The ratio of water to land on the Earth’s surface is approximately 7 : 3. However, this ratio
is likely to change as global warming leads to the melting of the polar icecaps and an
increase in the amount of the surface underwater. Countries including Bangladesh, Burma
and Egypt could fi nd large parts of their surface area fl ooded and even parts of the UK
such as Lincolnshire and the area around the Thames Estuary may be lost.
