Teaching Plan of “Numbers”
Numbers are a very integral part of our life, every now and then we see them around us:
be it a calendar, a clock, a calculator, a phone, a vehicle’s number, price of an article,
pages of a book etc. We use numbers for every major/minor findings related to both living
and non-living objects: whether its counting the number of fingers on our hands, days in a
year, desks in a classroom, students in a school, cars in a town etc. Numbers are actually
basic elements of mathematics used for counting, measuring, ranking, comparing
quantities, and solving equations. So the first topic for learning mathematics is the study
of numbers.
1,2,3… were the first symbols or digits used for counting, “zero” was invented later both
to express “nothing/none/nil” as well as for the ease of writing numbers. Today's
numbers, also called Hindu-Arabic numbers, are a combination of just 10 symbols or
digits: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0.
A number chart can be used to introduce numbers 0-100 to the kids.
