1.- POSSESSIVE ‘S
FORM
Owner + ‘s + object owned.

We add
to the noun to show that it owns or has something.
USE
‘s
1.- We normally use
for people and animals.
Examples:

Carla is Daniel’s sister.

Nelson always uses his sister’s calculator.

Daniel’s motorcycle is in the yard.
2.- We can use ‘s without a noun.
Examples:
-
Daniel’s car is more expensive than Nelson’s. ( =Nelson’s car)

“Where are you?” “I am at Patty’s now”. ( = Patty’s house)

She goes to the butcher’s every week. ( = the butcher’s shop)
3.- We always answer questions beginning with Whose with a possessive form.
Examples:

Whose watch is this? It’s Susan’s.

Whose apples are those? They’re Carla’s.
4.- We write ‘s after a singular noun.
Examples:

My brother’s bike (one brother)

My son’s books (one son)

after plural nouns, ending with –s.
