Dear [Title and Name]:
I write to express my support of federal affordable housing programs. They’ve lifted millions of families
out of poverty and reduce homelessness. We need these resources now more than ever. Currently 11
million families spend more than half of their income on rent. They struggle to pay for basic needs
because after paying rent, there’s little money left.
The problem is getting worse in every state. But, instead of increasing investments, Congress is poised to
pass deep spending cuts. And a proposed federal budget could slash programs by an additional $6
billion.
Quad City families can’t afford any further cuts to already underfunded housing programs that put a
roof over their heads. Additional cuts would hurt millions of low income people, including seniors,
people with disabilities, veterans, families with children, and others.
Further cuts in affordable housing are dangerous. They’ll lead to more people facing eviction and living
on the streets instead of having a warm, stable and affordable home. I call on you to increase, not
decrease, funding to affordable housing.
Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
