K- 2 Home Reading Parent Helpers
Dear Parents
Our K-2 Home Reading Program will begin in Week 4. For our new parents, the aim of the program is to encourage
students to read at home every day to boost literacy outcomes for our students.
Children can read any book (home-readers, library books, own books etc.) An A4 sized plastic envelope will be provid-
ed to keep books safe, clean and dry when they go home. There will be a Home Reading Diary to record the title of
books read which will need to be dated and initialled for each night that home reading takes place. This needs to be
returned with the home reading folder on the day or days designated by each class teacher - this is indicated on the
front of the diary.
As a reminder, to encourage participation we have an award system:
the class with the highest participation rate each week will be awarded the perpetual home-reading trophy
for every 20 nights of reading, students will receive a reading award
at 100 nights, students will receive a school merit award
when students reach 180 nights, they will receive a book to keep.
Each class will require a parent helper to come in
(once a week)
for about half an hour. In

we would love some
help to
swap home-readers over, perhaps listen to students read, fill out awards and mark class homereading charts.
We are also looking for parent helpers to read with children in the morning before school as part of a Home Reading
Club. If you are able to assist, please fill out the slip below and pass to your child’s teacher by Wednesday, Week 3.
