Home Lesson Project Quarter 1
This is our first quarter home learning project that you will be doing with your child. The first grade students have been practicing
representing numbers using tally marks. We have been creating tally charts in class to collect data. Our first quarter home learning project will
focus on creating your very own tally chart.
Standard 1: Numbers and Operations: Number Sense: Understand numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers,
and number systems.
Benchmark 1.1.3: Represent whole numbers up to 100 in flexible ways (eg. Relating, composing, and decomposing numbers), including the
use of tens as a unit.
Standard 11: Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability: Fluency with data: Pose questions and collect, organize, and represent data to answer

Please follow these procedures:
Your child will need to choose a topic that they want to collect data for.
For example: favorite ice cream flavor, favorite restaurant, favorite outdoor activity, favorite season, favorite vacation site,
Please choose at least 4 sub categories to collect data.
Be creative in the topic you choose!
Collect data from at least 20-25 people.
Create a tally chart on a poster board. You must use tally marks to represent the data collected.
*Things to be included on your tally chart
