Special Occasion Speech (Ceremonial)
Instructions
Directions:
Carefully read and review the chapter related to ceremonial speaking (a/k/a special occasion speech)
in your textbook, The Art of Public Speaking. Then choose
one
of the following two options below.
For either option, you are required to speak for 2-3 minutes. Additionally, you should utilize and apply
all
you’ve learned, particularly regarding delivery, timing, voice, and creative use of words, etc. (see
the relevant lecture lessons and textbook chapters)!
Your outline simply needs to be typed and submitted into the appropriate Dropbox, using whatever
content / formatting you choose as presenter. You have complete freedom, in terms of the outline, for
this assignment. Keep in mind that the primary emphasis is on your delivery / presentation style.
Option
A:
1. Choose one of the types of special occasion presentations from your text (to welcome, to pay
tribute, to introduce, to nominate, to dedicate, to commemorate, or to entertain).
2. Create your own speech, using whatever subject / topic you desire.
3. Complete only a keyword outline (i.e., speaking outline) to submit on speech day in any format /
pattern / organization that you desire.
4. Prepare and practice the speech of your choosing to deliver on the appropriate date.
Option
B:
1. Choose one of the ceremonial “topics” on the next page (or make another one up) to adapt as
your own and present, paying special attention to creativity.
2. Complete only a keyword outline (i.e., speaking outline) to submit on speech day in whatever
format / pattern / organization that you desire.
3. Prepare and practice your speech to deliver on specified date. Again, emphasis is on delivery!
