SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS APPEAL INSTRUCTIONS
If you have experienced mitigating circumstances which impacted your performance, you may submit this appeal form and
relevant supporting documentation to the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Benefits for a review of your individual
situation. The Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Benefits will review your appeal and determine whether your
circumstances warrant an extended period of financial aid approval.
IF YOU ARE APPEALING A SUSPENSION (GPA or PASSING RATE)
Submit the following three items as part of the appeal process:
1. A Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal form.
2. A signed and dated typed Letter of Explanation to include:
a. Why I failed to meet Minimum Academic Standard Requirements
b. What has changed or what changes am I making to allow me to reach Minimum Academic Standard
Requirements
c. What are my objectives and what is my schedule to achieve these objectives
3. Submit third party Documentation supporting the reason(s) why Minimum Academic Requirements were
not met e.g., a letter from an official familiar with your situation, a police officer, medical or legal
documentation, death certificate, etc.
Note: You may be required to complete an Academic Plan at the discretion of the Office of Financial Aid.
IF YOU ARE APPEALING MAXIMUM TIME FRAME
Students in Maximum Time Frame Status may not add an academic program and may only change their current
academic program under special circumstances. Students must complete the program they were pursuing at the
time they entered this status.
Submit the following two items as part of the appeal process:
1. A Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal form.
2. Advising & Transfer Center’s Financial Aid SAP Max Time Frame (90+) Form. This must include an
Academic Evaluation/Degree Audit that indicates all the classes the student plans to or is already enrolled
*If you are appealing a Maximum Time Frame AND GPA and/or Passing Rate, you may submit ONE Financial
Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Form along with all other required documents.
Failure to complete any part of the appeal process could delay your review and/or result in the loss of financial aid.
Notification of the Office of Financial Aid’s decision will be sent to you, via email, to the email address on file at
MCC. Submitting an appeal does not guarantee approval or financial aid eligibility. All appeal decisions are
final.
