VOYAGER TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
NATIONAL GUARD/RESERVIST TUITION ASSISTANCE INFORMATION
SHEET
Purpose: To honor and support Oregon members of the National Guard and Reserves who have been
deployed in a combat zone since September 11, 2001.
Benefits: With this program, qualifying members of the National Guard and Reserves will be awarded a fee
remission for no more than the difference between mandatory PSU tuition and fees, GI Bill tuition and fees
benefits, and expected National Guard Tuition Assistance (currently $4500/year). This program does not
cover non-mandatory fees such as online course fees, special course fees, matriculation fees or differential
program fees.
The student is responsible for applying for the tuition assistance benefit from the National Guard program.
The Voyager award is a “last dollar award”, meaning that the National Guard Tuition Assistance benefit of
$4500 will be included when determining eligibility. If the student doesn’t receive the full $4500 National
Guard Tuition Assistance, he/she needs to provide appropriate documentation to the Office of Student
Financial Aid and Scholarships in order to be eligible for an increased Voyager award. Any Voyager award
will be taken into consideration when determining federal financial aid eligibility.
Qualifications:
You must be, or have been, a member of the National Guard or Reserves who was called to active
duty and served in a combat zone since September 11, 2001.
You must be a fully admitted, undergraduate student at Portland State University. You must be
pursuing a first Bachelor’s degree.

You must be attending fulltime (minimum of 12 credits per term) at the end of the second week of
each term (the census date).
You must maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the Office of Student Financial
Aid & Scholarships, for continued eligibility.
You will only be considered for Voyager eligibility until you’ve earned 195 college credits,
including any and all accepted transfer credits. Exceptions to this credit limitation can only be made
for programs with minimum required credits exceeding 180 (e.g. Mechanical Engineering).
