Data For Texas Occupational Driver'S License

OCCUPATIONAL LICENSE INFORMATION
**MAY NOT BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE**
The requirements for the issuance of a Texas Occupational Driver’s License are:
1. Get your SR-22 form from your car insurance company.
2. Obtain a copy of your driving history; this is available through the Texas Department of
Public Safety.
3. Complete the Petition for Occupational Driver’s License and file it and the Order with the
District Clerk’s Office, you can download the forms at www. . The filing
fee is $277.00 and is payable by cash, money order, check, debit or credit card.
4. Occupational Driver’s License Order must be presented to the District Attorney before the
judge can sign the Order. If no judge is available to sign the Order, a hearing must be set.
5. When you appear for the Court hearing, bring the following items:
a. Copy of letter from DPS showing reason for suspension
b. Proof of insurance through date requested for the license
c. Copy of your driving history
d. Letter from your employer stating the hours you work
6. After the court hearing the Order will be filed with the District Clerk’s office and you will
receive two (2) certified copies of the Petition and the Order. Mail one set to the DPS and
keep the other set. You must have a certified copy of the Petition and Order on your
person for the entire period that your regular license is suspended.
7. Send the following items to DPS:
a. Certified copy of the Petition and Order
b. Copy of the SR-22
c. DIC-37 (see attached)
d. A money order payable to DPS for reinstatement fees (must contact DPS for this
amount)
e. A $10.00 money order payable to DPS (occupational license fee)
8. Send the above to:

Due to recent changes in the law pertaining to Occupational Drivers License, please note, after filing
for the Occupational License the Texas Department of Public Safety may refuse to grant the license for
a period of from 90 days up to 1 year, dependent upon past driving history.
