Reading
Read 5 or more books at the level most appropriate for you. One book must be fiction and one
book must be non-fiction. Books may be read independently or read aloud to a parent. Print and

complete the 4
grade reading log. You may also enjoy participating in the summer reading
incentive program offered at the public library.
Writing
Write 10 journal entries, at least one paragraph each. Each paragraph must include a main idea
statement, 5 or more supportive detail sentences, and a conclusion. Your conclusion statement
should restate your main idea in a new way. Correct use of writing conventions is expected.
Make your own summer journal by stapling sheets of paper together or use a spiral notebook.

Descriptive Essay
Write a 3 paragraph essay on a topic of your choice. Each paragraph
must include a topic sentence, supportive details, and a conclusion.
Math
Remember… you can still login to play the math games on the Everyday Mathematics website at
all summer.
Print and complete the
100 addition facts quiz, 100 subtraction facts quiz, and 100 multiplication facts quiz with 98-
100% accuracy in 5 minutes or less. Sort your flashcards by strategy for extra practice, if
needed. Strategies include: plus 1, plus 2, minus 1, minus 2, sums of 10, subtract from 10, add 9
trick, doubles, doubles plus or minus 1, times 1, times 2, times 3, times 5, squares, and 9s trick.
