EXAMPLE QUESTIONS:
After your child reads each night, check to see that they UNDERSTAND what they just read.
Ask them
questions such as:
- Who are the main characters in your story? - What was the problem/solution?
- What was the story mostly about?
- What happened at the end of your story/chapter?
- What did you like/dislike about the story? - Where and when did the story take place?

How does the character feel?
Why?
- How does the character change in the story?
OTHER TIPS:
- Ask your child to read a part of the book out loud to you.
- Encourage your child to read part of the story to another family member.
- Encourage your child to draw a picture to illustrate something they read.
