Weekly Reading Log
Due: Last day of the week.
Directions: Third graders are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes at home each night [Monday-Friday].
They will bring home a weekly reading log every Monday. This log should be filled out each night after reading.
Weekly Reading Logs are due at the end of the week (typically Friday).
Reading can be accomplished in various ways, such as:
 orally, to an adult
 independent silent reading
 independent oral reading
 shared reading (child and parent share reading and listening)
Tips for reading aloud with your child…
Regularly discuss and share what is read. Share new vocabulary, questions you have about the text, what you know
about the main character(s) and how you know this, describe the setting, orally summarize what you have read so
far, share parts of the text that enabled you to get a vivid visual image and explain why you think it was so
effective, read aloud concentrating on fluency, use illustrations to encourage prediction and interpretation, relate
books to own experiences, and ask open-ended questions about plot and characters.
The Reading Log for this week is on the back.
Happy reading,
Ms. Savio
