I have completed the Boy Scouts’ requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout and am preparing to

submit my application. The application requires me to enter contact information for people who

can serve as references for me, including my parents/guardians, a religious leader, a teacher or

other educational staff, my employer (if any), and two other persons who know me, can attest to

my character, and can recommend me for the Eagle Award.

You are one of the persons I put down as a reference. A personalized reference letter is highly

recommended; however, you may use the enclosed Eagle Reference Report, if you wish, taking

care to give your evaluation on those Scouting attributes on which you have knowledge or first-

hand experience regarding me. Your letter or the Reference Report needs to be completed and

returned by mail to the designated Troop Leader whose name and address are on the enclosed

envelope. He/she will deliver your response unopened to the person conducting the Eagle Board

of Review. The Council or District Eagle Coordinator who will conduct my Eagle Board of

Review will open the responses from my references so that they can be considered by the Board.

Your response is completely confidential; I will never see your response.

The Eagle Scout Award is the highest award a boy can earn in the Scouting program, and is given

as much for the Scout’s personal leadership and character qualifications as it is for his attainment

of Scout skills. The Boy Scouts of America and Eagle Board of Review are very interested in

your evaluation and comments in regard to my leadership ability and personal qualities. Please

comment on these in your letter or on the enclosed form. Then place it in the enclosed envelope

and mail it.
