INSTRUCTIONS FOR “THE SALE OF CHOMETZ INVENTORY FORM”
Welcome to the Sale of Chometz at Congregation Beth El-Atereth Israel.
In order to expedite the process, we ask for your help in filling-out the “Sale of Chometz Inventory
Form” in advance of your meeting with the Rabbi.
THIS FORM, ALONE, DOES NOT CONSTITUTE YOUR DESIGNATION OF THE RABBI AS
YOUR AGENT TO SELL THE CHOMETZ. IN ORDER FOR THAT TO TAKE EFFECT, YOU
MUST SEE THE RABBI PERSONALLY AND SIGN THE POWER OF ATTORNEY FORM, AS
WELL AS MAKE A KINYAN SUDAR APPOINTING HIM AS YOUR AGENT.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN THIS FORM BY MAIL AND PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE IT FOR THE
RABBI WITHOUT MEETING WITH HIM PERSONALLY.
NUMBER OF FORMS
Please fill-out a separate form for each primary residence for which chometz is being sold. For example, if
you’re acting as an agent on behalf of a family member (i.e. child-parent, etc.) who has their own primary
residence, please fill-out a separate form for each of these primary residences.
For other locations of chometz, such as your place of work or a summer home, please list the addresses on
the “Other Locations of Chometz” Line, on the same inventory form as your primary residence.
DESCRIPTION OF CHOMETZ
In describing the chometz, we would like you to estimate the following:
LIQUOR: The number of open and closed bottles of chometz liquor you will have in your home over
Pesach. You should not include wine or non-chometz liquor in this description.
On average, we estimate a typical bottle of new liquor at $12/bottle, and an open bottle of liquor at $4/bottle.
DRY GOODS: Please identify dry goods by estimating the amount of dry goods that are real chometz. For
example, pasta, cereal, crackers and any form of wheat, oats, barley or spelt would be included in this list.
Rice, corn and beans are not included in the sale of chometz even though they are not used in Ashkenazic
homes on Pesach.
FROZEN GOODS: Please estimate the amount of frozen chometz that you will leave in your freezer over
Pesach. While meat, poultry and fish, which have been together with chometz throughout the year, should
not be used on Pesach, it does not need to be calculated as part of the value of the chometz that you are sell-
ing.
LOCATION OF CHOMETZ
Regarding all of the above, please indicate for each category, where you will be storing these chometz items
on Pesach. (For example, kitchen cabinets, boxes in the basement of basement freezer).
YOUR LOCATION ON PESACH
If you will be out of town for Pesach, we ask that you leave with us contact information for someone who
can gain access to your home. This is necessary because in order for the sale to be valid, the non-Jew, in the-
ory, has to be able to take physical possession of the chometz on Pesach, should he choose to do so. In prac-
tice, the non-Jew rarely chooses to do so; however, we need this information so that the legalities are all in
proper form.
Also, if you will be out of town, it is important to know what time zone you will be in, so that we make sure
that the sale of chometz will take place before Pesach begins, wherever you will be, and that the anticipated
repurchase will take place after Passover is completed, wherever you are located.
While we are asking you to fill out this form to give us an estimate of the value of the chometz in your pos-
session, in fact, all of your chometz, wherever it may be found, is included in the sale of chometz. Conse-
quently, if you later remember some chometz that you did not include, it is not required to amend the form.
