Fifth Grade Reading LOGS and REFLECTION
As a fifth grader you should be reading at least 20 minutes each night.
Keep track of what you are reading by filling in the LOG. Write the Title and Author.
For your ONE REFLECTION, CHOOSE ONE of the following questions:
1.
Which character do you find the most interesting? Why?
2.
What is the setting of the passage or chapter? Describe the location and the time.
3.
What is your favorite part of the book? Why do you like this part of the book? Explain your
thoughts.
4.
What do you think is the central or main idea of this story? What message or messages is the author
trying to teach? Use evidence from the text.
5.
What does the author want you to think about the main character? Using direct quotations from the
book, prove why you think as you do about the main character.
6.
What is one problem that a character faced? Why was the problem important to the character? How
did the character solve the problem?
7.
Do you think that the main character makes good choices for dealing with the conflicts? Explain
your thoughts. If not, what better choices could the character have made?
8.
What are 5 important words that the author included in the passage? Why are those particular
words important to the understanding of the passage?
9.
What three or four questions would you like to ask the author of the book? Why? How do you think
learning the answers would help you better understand the book?
10.
Choose one specific paragraph. Explain why that one paragraph is important to understanding the
entire passage or chapter.
11.
Write a detailed summary of the book or chapter that could be included in a newspaper. Be sure to
include answers to who? what? where? when? why? and how?
12.
What have you learned from what you have read? What are you curious about? What additional
facts are you inspired to learn?
